Hacienda Guadalupe was acquired in 1958 by Mr. Roberto Mombiela de León, continuing an agricultural and cattle ranching tradition spanning over 150 years of history.

Since then, this heritage has been passed down with pride and responsibility through generations, keeping alive the passion for agriculture and the commitment to excellence in every harvest.

Today, the farm is in the hands of its third generation, who, with the accumulated knowledge of the family, has driven intelligent and sustainable diversification, consolidating our legacy and reaffirming our commitment to Guatemalan agriculture.

We currently grow robusta coffee, working with selected seeds with over 30 years of genetic development from Finca Santa Augustina and with tropical robusta.

Our farm is located at 280 meters above sea level, with an average temperature of 32°C. Here the climate presents us with two very distinct realities:

Coffee has always been present in our family's history. For generations we grew highland coffee, keeping alive a tradition that shaped all of Guatemala.

However, at Hacienda Guadalupe, due to its climatic conditions and altitude above sea level, we have decided to cultivate robusta coffee, criollo and tropical varieties.

A tradition that evolves

Gyr dairy cattle represent excellence in tropical dairy production. This breed, originally from India, has perfectly adapted to Guatemala's climatic conditions, demonstrating exceptional heat resistance and superior dairy production capacity.

Our genetic improvement program focuses on selecting animals with optimal characteristics for milk production, including ideal body conformation, ability to adapt to the tropical climate, and resistance to common diseases in the region.

Through years of experience and participation in cattle fairs, we have developed genetics recognized for their quality and productivity, contributing to the development of dairy cattle ranching in Guatemala.

Mr. Roberto Mombiela de León began breeding Gyr cattle in 1978, and in the 1990s, he directed his selection toward the dairy line. Over these years, we have participated in multiple fairs, earning numerous awards thanks to the selection and genetic advancement of our cattle.

Currently, we are transforming our cattle ranching toward a regenerative model. In this system, we use pasture efficiently, care for the life of the soil and its environment, and work toward a low-maintenance type of cattle, relying on the Boran and Mashona breeds, originally from Africa, which adapt excellently to our climate and conditions.

Introduction

Ultra-High Density Grazing (UHDG) is an advanced pasture management system that takes the principles of intensive grazing to a higher level. This method is based on concentrating a large number of animals in small areas for very short periods, simulating the impact of large herds in natural ecosystems.

At Hacienda Guadalupe, we implement this system using very small paddocks that are grazed massively for hours. This intense impact stimulates rapid regrowth of pastures and promotes the natural deposition of nutrients in the soil, creating an accelerated fertility cycle.

The benefits of UHDG include: maximum efficiency in land use, dramatic improvement in soil health and structure, significant increase in organic matter, faster pasture regeneration cycles, and better body condition of cattle by constantly accessing young and nutritious forage.

This system allows us to achieve exceptional productivity while actively regenerating our soils, representing the future of sustainable and high-performance cattle ranching.

Roberto Mombiela de León began breeding the Gyr breed in 1978. Over these years, he has won numerous awards at exhibitions and milking competitions. We currently practice regenerative cattle ranching, preserving the life of the soil and its environment through non-selective intensive grazing systems and the use of low-maintenance genetics without the use of chemicals.

At Hacienda Guadalupe we cultivate rubber, coffee and mangosteen using sustainable practices and modern techniques. In our rubber plantation, latex extraction and collection is carried out by specialized labor. Robusta coffee receives precision irrigation and nutrition in an intensive system that maximizes its productivity. And mangosteen, a young project, is cared for with biological management and bio-inputs to ensure high-quality fruits.

Pursuing regenerative and sustainable management in every project

At Hacienda Guadalupe we go beyond traditional crops with innovative and sustainable projects. We produce high-quality honey with our beehives that also pollinate our crops. We cultivate dragon fruit, an exotic fruit with a unique flavor and exceptional nutritional properties. We develop Chlorella microalgae as a superfood and natural bio-input.

Extra Projects

At Hacienda Guadalupe, rubber is our main crop. We particularly benefit from the red clay soil, ideal for this crop, which allows our trees to grow strong and productive.

The clones we work with are mainly RRIM 600, PB 260, and PB 235, with RRIM 600 being the best adapted to our climate and conditions.

We have tappers specialized exclusively in rubber, who make technical and precise cuts to obtain the highest production without harming the trees.

Regarding cultural practices, for panel fungus control we use biological products such as Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus pumilus, ensuring sustainable and environmentally respectful management.

Weed control is done manually, helping to preserve life in the soil.

Natural rubber was introduced in Guatemala in the 1940s and, since then, became a strategic crop for the country. Today there are more than 60,000 hectares and over 30 million trees in production.

Guatemala has positioned itself as one of the leading rubber producers in Latin America, thanks to its climate and fertile soils that allow for excellent quality raw material.

History of rubber in Guatemala

is the transformation of liquid latex to solid, obtained through a coagulation process with formic acid.

is the milky liquid that flows from the tree after incision. It is the finest raw material, used in products that require high purity and elasticity, such as medical gloves, balloons, footwear, and delicate rubber articles.

At Hacienda Guadalupe we work with rubber varieties that we have identified as best adapted to our climate and red clay soil. These are RRIM 600, PB 260, and PB 235.

In this way, we maintain an integral cycle from seedbed to field, ensuring healthy, strong, and long-term sustainable plantations.

Mangosteen at Hacienda Guadalupe is cared for with special attention to soil biology and plant health:

We apply Bacillus, Trichoderma, and mycorrhizae, which strengthen roots, protect against diseases, and improve nutrient absorption.

Nutritional and biological management

Our plantation is 3 years old, and we continue establishing new areas. We expect the first fruits to begin production around the fifth year.

We have micro-sprinkler irrigation, from which we provide water to the crop according to its requirements.

Our cultivation

Mangosteen cultivation at Hacienda Guadalupe

We have the support of engineer Víctor Hugo Diaz Fuentes, researcher at the National Institute of Forestry, Agricultural and Livestock Research (INIFAP, by its Spanish acronym), a Mexican specialist in mangosteen.

He is the author of the book "Mangosteen: history, botany, cultivation and uses" dedicated to this fruit and with years of research in its management, who advises us at every stage of the project.

Specialized advisory

Mangosteen is a recent project at Hacienda Guadalupe that captivated us with its unique flavor and multiple benefits. This tropical fruit is recognized for being rich in antioxidants, especially xanthones, which give it anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and even potential anti-diabetic and anti-cancer properties.

The mangosteen rind is also valuable: it contains flavonoids, tannins, anthocyanins, and phenolic acids, compounds with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cell-protective effects. These nutrients help strengthen the immune system, skin, and fight inflammatory processes.

An exotic fruit, new but promising

Our Chlorella microalgae production represents the forefront of sustainable agriculture. These microalgae are not only a superfood with extraordinary nutritional properties, but we also use them as a natural bio-input to improve the health of our soils and crops.
