COFFEE

A tradition that evolves

Coffee has always been present in our family's history. For generations we grew highland coffee, keeping alive a tradition that shaped all of Guatemala.

However, at Hacienda Guadalupe, due to its climatic conditions and altitude above sea level, we have decided to cultivate robusta coffee, criollo and tropical varieties.

Coffee tradition at Hacienda Guadalupe

Our coffee today

We currently grow robusta coffee, working with selected seeds with over 30 years of genetic development from Finca Santa Augustina and with tropical robusta.

Our farm is located at 280 meters above sea level, with an average temperature of 32°C. Here the climate presents us with two very distinct realities:

Rainy winter:

with precipitation ranging from 2,000 to 2,500 mm annually, concentrated in this season.

Very dry summer:

practically no rain, which has led us to implement a drip irrigation system.

Intensive nutrition system for coffee at Hacienda Guadalupe

Year-round intensive nutrition

The irrigation system not only ensures water in summer, it also allows us to fertilize strategically, meeting the nutritional requirements of the crop.

In summer:

we apply weekly fertigation in small doses, which keeps growth active.

In winter:

we apply fertilizer manually by broadcasting once a month.

Highly intensive system

Inspired by modern techniques from leading countries like Brazil, we have implemented a highly intensive planting system:

  • Distance between plants: 0.65 meters.
  • Distance between rows: 3 meters.
  • Drip irrigation system
  • Stems per plant: only two stems are left per plant, to obtain between 10,000 and 12,000 stems per hectare.
